PERPENDICULAR AND PARALLEL LINES
Parallel Line
Parallel lines are
always the same
distance apart.
Example
A and B are
parallel Lines. The 2 lines A and B will
never meet.
C and D are parallel lines. C and D will not intersect each other.
C and D are parallel lines. C and D will not intersect each other.
Perpendicular lines
Perpendicular lines cross at right angles(90o) to each other.
X and Y are perpendicular to each other. They cut at right angle at point O.
X and Y are perpendicular to each other. They cut at right angle at point O.
VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL
LINES
Example
(a) Measure and write down the size of angle Y
shown in the gird below.
(b) In the grid, draw a line that is parallel to
AB and passing through C
Method
(a) Step1: Place protractor at point B
and base line on BC
Step2:
Read the marking that touches A
(b) Step1: < Formula - Parallel line
– always same distance apart>
i. B
is 6 grid-line from C,
ii.
From A, count 6 grid-line and mark a point X
Step2:
Place a rule that touches C and the point X
Draw the line passing through C and point
X
