MASS
- a measure of how much something weighs.
- can be measured in grams or kilograms
Measuring Mass
Using
Kilogram:
The puppy weighs
about 3kg The adult dog weighs
about 12kg
Using
grams
The cherry weighs about 10g The peanuts weighs about 4g
COMPARING AND ORDERING MASSES
HEAVY/HEAVIER/HEAVIEST LIGHT/LIGHTER/LIGHTEST
orange pear apple peach
MORE THAN / LESS THAN
The mass of the orange is more than the mass of the apple.
The mass of the apple is less than the mass of the pear.
Mass - Kilogram(kg) and Gram(g)
1 kg = 1000 g
kg ( x 1000) g Eg: 2kg = 2 x 1000 = 2000g
Gram (g) to Kg
kg (/1000) g 800g = 800/1000 = 0.8kg
Converter= (divide) / <- kg (1000) g -> x (multiply)
Example:
Convert 4.7kg to g
/ <- kg (1000) g -> x Step 1 : Converter
4.7kg = g Step 2: Underline UOM x or / ?
4.7kg = 4.7 x 1000 kg to g -> x
= 4700g
Example:
Convert 82g to kg
/ <- kg (1000) g -> x Step 1 : Converter
82g = kg Step 2: Underline UOM x or / ?
82g = 82 / 1000 g to kg -> /
= 0.082kg
Capacity is the amount of liquid a solid can contain.
Capacity is usually measured in litres.
1000 cm³ = 1000 millilitres = 1 litre.
For example the capacity of:
- a jug
- a teacup or mug
- a food container
- a fish tank
