ST2 Statistics : Line Graphs and Doing Graph Questions (Level 4-6)

Prior TopicTables and Graphs

Data can be presented in different formats.  Both tables contain the same information:
The following tables show the number of books that John reads each month.

Doing Graph Questions
Example
The line graph shows the size of the T-shirts ordered by a class.

(Q1) How many students order size S?
(Q2) How many students need T-shirt bigger than Size M?
(Q3) How many students are there in the class?
(Q4) Which size/sizes receive at least 6 orders?

Method (Before answering the question)

Compute the axis scale
  Step1: higher scale – lower value = 8-4 = 4units
  Step2:  Count number of minor scale(Block) = 2

(Q1) How many students order size S?
Method:
   Step1: Circle keyword (size S, how many)
   Step2: Draw line up and Across to Y to get value
   Step3: Solve: 1 block above 4 à 4+2 = 6

(Q2) How many students need T-shirt bigger than Size M?
  Step1:  Circle Keywords (bigger than M -> L and XL, How many)
  Step2:  Draw line up and across Y to get value
  Step3:  Solve : L is between 6 and 8 = 7, XL is between 4 and 6 = 5
T-shirts bigger than M = 7 + 5 = 12

(Q3) How many students are there in the class?
   (Request student to show the working)
            XS = 4, S=6, M=14, L = 7, XL=5
          Total = 4+6+14+7+5 = 36 students.

(Q4) Which size/sizes receive at least 6 orders?
Method:

  Step1: Circle Keywords (at least, 6 orders, size)
  Step2: Map given value: at least 6 -> 6 and more than 6 quantity),

            Draw line at 6 on Y, and circle Value and Line Down
  Step3: Solve: 3 values 6, 7 and 14 -> S, M and L
         Size S, M and L receive at least 6 orders.
